Víctor M. Cruz-Atienza is a full professor at the National University of Mexico, and former head of the Department of Seismology at the Institute of Geophysics. He is interested in the physics of earthquakes, from the rupture process to the seismic site effects. He develops theory to look for and interpret observations in terms of physically-consistent fault processes and properties of the solid earth. Data inversion techniques and forward modelling are his primary tools. He is involved with the source dynamics of earthquakes, slow earthquakes (i.e. tremor and slow slip events), wave propagation and the Earth’s crustal structure.
