Biography

Rodrigo Díaz is chair of the Digital Systems and Data Department at the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology (ITBA), where he was also recently appointed deputy dean of the School of Management and Technology. He is an Independent Researcher at Argentina's National Research Council (CONICET) and a professor at the Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM).

He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Buenos Aires in 2009, then spent several years as a postdoctoral researcher at European institutes: the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (2009–2011), the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille as a CNES fellow (2011–2013), and the Geneva Observatory (2013–2016). He returned to Argentina in 2016 and has since received prizes from the National Academy of Exact and Natural Sciences (2018) and the National Academy of Sciences (2019).

His main scientific interest is extrasolar planet science, where he has contributed to the development and implementation of statistical methods for validating transiting exoplanet candidates, techniques for Bayesian model comparison, and the innovative use of deep learning models in radial velocity data.
