Satellite megaconstellations

A number of companies plan to deploy, or are already deploying, 'megaconstellations' of tens of thousands of satellites to deliver global internet access. Optical and radio astronomers are concerned about the potential impact the new constellations will have on their work, for example in interfering with wide field images of the sky.

In the UK the Royal Astronomical Society is convening a dialogue between these operators and the astronomical community, to share the concerns of scientists, and to work on mitigation of the problem.

This page has notes and where available presentations from the different meetings, the first of which took place at the RAS in January 2020, and relevant articles and scientific papers.
