If you have an interest in Astronomy and/or Geophysics and enjoy popular talks, visits and social events with similarly minded people, why not join the Friends of the RAS! The membership benefits include:

  • Friends-only lectures
  • Priority booking at RAS Public Lectures
  • Invitations to social events and meetings in Burlington House
  • Use of the Society's historic Library in Burlington House
  • Escorted visits to observatories and other places of interest
  • Discounted subscription to Astronomy & Geophysics magazine (A&G)

 

Friends of the RAS Fees

The membership year runs from January to December. Single Membership is £40 for the year and Joint Membership (for two people living at the same address) is £50 for the year. Fees can be paid by credit or debit card, cheque or, if you have a UK bank account, you can set up a direct debit. Friends of the RAS will be contacted in December to renew their membership for the following year. New membership cards are distributed in January. Friends who join after June 30th will pay a reduced rate (£20 for Single Membership, £25 for Joint Membership) for their first payment.

A&G is published six times a year (beginning in February) and the subscription rate is currently £46 for UK addresses and £58 for non-UK addresses.

 

How to join

To become a Friend of the the Royal Astronomical Society please complete the online application form.

Please note that you must be 18 or over to become a Friend of the RAS. Under 18s are welcome to join with an adult (as Joint Membership) and must be accompanied when visiting the RAS at Burlington House.

We offer hybrid lectures to the Friends. These will be based in the Society's offices in London Piccadilly and online attendees will be able to join via Zoom. Trips and other events are currently based around London and the south east of England. Please bear these points in mind when applying for membership.
